Went here for a quick meal last week with. Nice decor, friendly service - liked that the waiters/waitresses didn't keep wandering past us, fiddling with plates etc - just kept an eye on us from a distance.
Fresh fruit drinks/ smoothies were superb(cucumber and lime, watermelon and passionfruit) - about 40 HKD each. Ordered the suckling pig, nasi goreng and some fried veg - all were good without being outstanding. Portions were big as well - 1 dish each would have been enough. Most dishes around 80-90 HKD I think - some abround 130 HKD. Will return byPhilE, March 1, 2006
Tried this on a Monday night when they have a 2-4-1 deal on main courses (you need to print a voucher first). Was quite busy around 7.30 when we arrived but they let us reserve a table and grab a beer downstairs before going up to eat. Service was polite if nothing special - the previous reviewer is right that some people were eating downstairs but I think it was mostly bar snacks (chips and dips type stuff).
Enchilladas and Burritos were both fine and good value becuase of the 2-4-1 (normally 120 HKD each). Probably wouldn't rush back without the same offer going on, but if you're after some TexMex food you could do worse. byPhilE, March 1, 2006
Grabbed a pie and chips on a week-night. Pie was average - gravy a bit tasteless. Guinness was good. Bit smokey for my liking (2 guys puffing cigars) and no separate eating area - shame the no-smoking rules on pubs in the Irish Republic don't apply here!

Nice bar, nice restuarant setting upstairs. Fantastic juicy steaks (particularly the cuts of fresh roast rib on Fri/Sat nights), good chips, great sauces, nice veg - at a price. 280 HKD gets you a steak with some sauce. Veg, chips etc are extras at a minimum of 40HKD each. The wine list starts around 300 HKD per bottle but rapidly hits 1000+.
Somewhere to go if the boss is paying. byPhilE, March 1, 2006
Maybe it was just the night we went - a cold and wet one in February - but the experience didn't make us want to go back.
We were seated outside, protected from the rain by big plastic sheets, but not the nicest setting - and not indoors where we asked for when booking several days before. The menu came as a bit of a disappointment too. Having been to another Cafe Deco group restaurants(the one at the Peak) I expected more choice of asian dishes, but the menu was mostly geared to grilled seafood, steaks, burgers, with a few curries for some measure. The food itself and the service was fine, but nothing to make us want to rush back. The wine list had a good selection in terms of type and price and it's a nice location to try if you're new to Hong Kong or have visitors. Probably better on a warmer day, or at lunchtime (others have said the weekend brunches and buffets are very good). |
