A small fish 'n chip shop that wouldn't look out of place in the U.K. Has the typical cooking/serving bar, and about 4 kitchen style rectangular wooden tables for four, plus a few for two... Went there earlier this week for lunch with a colleague.. Had the 'special' (about HK$75)...Vegetable soup (a bit thin.. sort of Chinese style, but still good) , bread and butter, Fish (Perch) Chips and Salad, and (not included) a tea (good and strong).
Good stuff.. I've also tried this place a fair few times for other fish (such as Cod), and for their pies (including vegetable pie) and sausages.. It's also of course got all the essential condiments including Brown sauce and Tartar sauce.... Enjoyed it every time I.ve been.. I.m a faaan... I'll give it 4 out of 5. (NB This place may also be of special interest to those British that have just arrived from the U.K. and are in the .Where can I find British this?... Where can I find British that?... Where's Marks and Spencer.s?. homesick phase of life... BTW Marks and Spencer.s is about 10 minutes walk away... ) bypaulleeevans, September 7, 2003 1 of 1 people found this review helpful
I almost never ever go for a Mexican meal... However, one of the few times, and the one that stands out in my mind that I remember was in Southern U.S.A about 10 years ago.. That place was a large, barn-style canteen, with spicy food, the beers flowing, a buzzing atmosphere, and Mexican waiters that addressed us with 'Amigo', and served me my first taste of fried Ice Cream...
This place in Mid-Levels Hong Kong however, that I went with a colleague for lunch with this week was nothing like that... It was small, very clean, relaxing, almost 'cottage-style' quaint... We had the lunch buffet, which cost about HK$75 each. It was a small buffet, (about 8 or so dishes) including Chili Con Carne (good, but I prefer I bit more spicy), Salads, Black Beans (enjoyed, very tasty) , Chicken, tortillas... and some sort of dessert (looks like a Fruit Sponge, tastes like a scone; I'll have to check out what it's called). The buffet included a drink.. We had ice lemon tea (with free refills)... All in all a good experience, and I will definitely be going back (subject to not dying soon of course)... Since I've only been here once, and it's good but not outstanding, I'll give this place 3 out of 5..... bypaulleeevans, September 2, 2003
Went for a bit of food and drink one evening this week with a couple of friends ... .Old American Diner. Style, opening out to the street...
Video jukebox with a large screen above the bar belted out songs from past decades to current day, including the Jackson five, Abba, The Bangles (I'd forgotten how good looking these women were), and Eminem... Gives quite a fun lively atmosphere to the place... It's also a chance to get away from the same old lagers (Fosters, Carlsberg, Stella yawn yawn).. and so I went for Hoegaargen followed by the contrasting taste of a bottle of Sam Adams. both beers fresh, cool enough and went down well... (Beer price about HK$50 each). For dinner I went for the Greek Omelette (plenty of olives and generous slices of Feta Cheese)... served with vedge and potatoes... Not bad at all.... (Price about HK$90) I find this bar a relaxing, uplifting and fun bar with good beer (well I like Sam Adams beer), fun music and a good mixed crowd. I.ve come here on and off for many years and will continue to do so. (3.5 out of 5, so I'll give it 4) bypaulleeevans, September 1, 2003
Last week I needed the following arcticles for a stag night..
Napolean hat(s) Eye patches (for Nelson's) Paint for fabrics (to paint a T-shirt) French Beret Looked quite hard for a type of shop that might provide such stuff and found a few useful listings including one for a shop called "Masquerade" from on another site. The shop "Masquerade" provided all the articles except the Napoloean hat(s) (we ended up making them from newspaper). There is all sorts of costume stuff in this shop (such as top hats and much much more). It's not high end gear; The eye patches cost about HK$15 each, and the Beret about HK$130, paint about HK$30/pot (I think)... Just what we needed.. a bit of volume discount and fairly friendly service.... A good shop to know about... As the Yanks might say.. It saved our ass... bypaulleeevans, August 28, 2003
Just went for the set Lunch at Koh-i-Noor(Central) in Lan Kwai Fong.
A small buffet for about HK$50. Had Fish curry (quite good, not too fishy), Chicken Curry (just OK), Nan (OK), Onion Barji (OK), some Indian dessert (OK), and a salty lassi (good) (extra HK$25 or so). Atmos, comfortable and not too packed (about 12:30am Thursday). If I had been in the mood for some spicy food though this place wouldn't have satisfied me (I¡¦d go for Thai anyway), and my Indian friend & colleague reckons it was bland (what does he know though compared to us Brits¡K). Nothing wrong with it for the price, and would go back at a push... thus 2 out of 5... |
