Does anyone know how an American can get a tourist visa to Russia? I know that I need to go to the Russian Consulate, but do I need to be part of a group in order to secure a visa? I am more worried about securing the visa support documents necessary for visa. Any ideas or words of advice most welcome. Thx!

As far as I know, for a tourist visa you need to get an 'invite' to the country (i.e. from a travel agent), but ive not been for a few years...

Easiest and most reliable way to find out is to email your embassy/consulate wherever you want to pick it up and ask them.

Ah thx for 411. I think I found out what I needed by surfing 'net. I'm convinced trying to get a Russian visa is like breaking into Ft. Knox!!

Your best bet may be to look into the cheapest 'tour' you can find. At this time of year there will also be loads of outdoor persuit type places open (white water rafting etc) so you could try them as well....
