Wink other experience?

i have had some kind of experience as a consumer in hk. can someone please give other tips of how to beware of the sales gimmick that some businesses might have here? my friend once purchased a handphone from a small electrical shop, and it turned out that some of the accessories that is suppose to come with the phone is missing. always go to big electrical shop especially for expensive items like handphone.

Reei,

Big is not always good. We tend to shop for electrical / electronics items from smaller shops .. just not the touristy shops.

There is a wonderful mobile phone place in Sheung Wan where I used to go. The owner remembers me because I used to pass his shop and say hello to him every now and then. Stuff like electronics (amp / dvd players etc) have been purchased from the same shop in Causeway Bay for the last 10 years. We've also bought some consumer electronics items from Chungking through recommendations.

The point is to know where you're going, ask around for a recommendation and you'll be ok.

Most of the smaller shops can knock off about 10-20% of the price from fortress.

There are other shops in Mong Kok for consumer electronics. Especially for digicams, cellphones and audio products. Your best bet is to shop around and search for bargains (like everyone in HK does! ).
