Pre-School ? Hello everyone, my family and I are considering moving to Hong Kong as I may potentially accept a job offer and be based there. I'm just wondering how difficult it would be for my wife to find work in Hong Kong? She is currently a pre-school teacher in Canada specializing in the development of programs for children with special behavioural and developmental needs (ie. Autism, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, AD/HD). She has a diploma in Early Childhood Education and has Infant/Toddler certification. In Canada these things mean quite a lot in the field of Early Childhood Education and Pre-School: however, in Asia they may not mean a thing. Can anyone give us some insight as to whether she would be employable or not. If not in her current line of work would there be jobs available teaching English or anything else in the Educational system? Thanks in advance.

There is a smorgasboard of non-specialist kindergarten (preschool) teaching jobs available for native English speakers. She will have the opposite of a problem finding work.

| Hello, im a social worker in an international school. based on wat u said about ur wife's training background and qualifications, i think it would not be difficult for her to find a job here in hk as many kids now are identified with special need (esp ADHD among young kids in hk) even the school i work for has an individual need teacher who works on the educational need of kids while i as social worker will focus on their emotional and behavioral needs. And even if she doent find a job in that specific field, i find she can probably find a teaching job here. But does she have a degree in education or childhood education? that may be easier if she does. Hope this is helpful. Quote:

You could try Delia School of Canada.

dandesjar, in HK if your wife wants to become a kindergarten teacher, she would need to get her qualifications assessed, to see if they'd match with the local pre-school teacher training - Qualified Kindergarten Teacher (QKT). Before all these, she can start sending letters to different schools and see if any schools would have vacanies, esp. for international schools. I think the chances for her to get employed with them should be high, and may not have to worry about the QKT assessment either. Good luck Blom
