Hi All,

I'm moving to HK in August and wanted to get a start on researching career opportunities. I have a BA in Economics and Psych, getting TEFL certification this summer, and have three years of non-education corporate work experience. I'm looking to start in education and just wanted to know what salary range to expect for NET's with my qualifications.

are there any that target education? Will it be difficult to find a school or learning center that will sponsor my visa?

Hi There,

With just a tefl cert the only jobs you are likely to get are in private language schools. From my knowledge they pay around $200 - 300HK an hour.

www.asiaxpat.com has a careers section that targets mostly language centres (not schools) and runnergal is right on the money about the money....

Oh and the classified section in Saturday's paper will have education jobs....there will be a few small ads for private language schools. You can search on their website

Don't depend on getting something through asiaxpat though.

a lot of there advertisers just don't bother to respond to you even if you are qualified and experienced.

Hi, my husband and I are retired Canadian teachers. We visited China for 2 weeks in March 2006 and did the usual touring now we want to return to learn more about the real China and meet the people. We originally thought about doing volunteer work in China- tutoring, teaching, helping with the elderly or disabled but the costs of volunteer programs is very high and our pensions are modest. Their time committment is about 6 months and is much too long as we have elderly parents here in Canada and grandchildren that would miss us too much so we can only stay about 1 month. We hope to come in January or February of 2007 to volunteer. We would hope that you would know about who we could volunteer for. We can teach children English or perhaps even other family members or even help in the workplace. We do not want to sit around each day. If you can provide us with a homestay like this please email us.
