Internet dilemma

Hi guys,

Hope you guys can help me as i am in a tight situation.

Have signed up today with PCCW 3m for 1 year and during the conversation the guy told me it could be setup in 2 days.
I'm happy because i will get my keys to my new app. in mongkok saturday.

Anyway, after a few minutes, the guy told me that it will take 2 weeks before i get internet !
Which is a complete disaster as i NEED internet to do my job !

What are my options and how can i internet in the 2 weeks ?

Some say its possible to bring my laptop and leech off the WIFI of the HK library, is this true ? if so, how fast is this connection and is it free as they say ?

I also heard that internetting with your laptop at pacific coffee or any other place will be charged (for a high amount), is this true ?

any other suggestions are welcome........

Any hotel will have a business center you can use. It will cost a bit, but should be OK for a temporary solution

will there be anything near Mongkok - where i dont have to pay and the internet is 'fast' ?

Buying an (external) antenna and look for unprotected WIFI was my first option as well

Get stumbler running on your machine and just find an open port. I'd say about 50% of the ones I've tried are open as people aren't bothered enough to lock them down.

Or you could subscribe to PCCW/Sunday's wireless broadband service for $58/month. Useable at all Starbucks and many shopping malls.

Call them and tell them you want to cancel the contract. They might just find a way to make it happen in two days.

Yes, you need to use the 'push strategy' (not the marketing activity) and use the tactics mentioned by Mr Know-it-all. I did exactly the same with my ISP and they installed my broadband connection when I wanted it.
