Once they told me that they couldn't do it in 2 days, i told them i wanted to end my contract on the spot.... guy 'happily' offered to rip the contract in 2...

BUT...... i heard/know that PCCW is the only choice for reliable internet and for stable/fast connection to outside HK regions.
AND i know that i have no other choice !

P.s. i need the connection at Paradise Square - Kwon Wa st. 3

Maybe someone here knows if it IS possible to get it done in 2 days ?

There are loads of FREE wifi hotspots in HK...

http://www.wififreespot.com/asia.html

There is free wifi in Mong Kok as well which is not listed but I forgot the name of the place. Saw it in a magazine. Just try out the major malls around the place. In fact, free wifi is all over the place in HK now.

There is no need whatsoever to subscribe to any wireless service like in Pacific Coffee, which btw, you do have to pay for.

Also, Btw...piggybacking a private unprotected network is illegal...or at least it is in US and UK. Not that anyone would actually catch you though in Hong Kong. In US and UK, there have been prosecutions. And what's the point when there is so much free access around.

And yes, most hotspots have decent speeds.

If it's really for "work" you shouldn't mind having to pay a bit for internet service.

Actually, it is a very open question in the US. There has been one prosecution in Florida, though I heard the user was acquitted because "there was no law prohibiting him from doing what he was doing." Some states have rules on illegal access to networks, other on illegal access to computers, and other on using illegal networking devices. Go figure what that means.

I have a kind of "get out of jail free" card though--I leave my wifi wide open in the US and I log who comes in. I have three instances of State Police cruisers who were doing speed traps near my home piggybacking on my wifi to check their personal email. I've logged it all just in case they ever go after someone in my state.

I use to go to Festival Walk in Kowloon Tong which is just a couple of stops away from Mong Kok on MTR or one stop on KCR. I suppose if you needed to recharge your battery, you might consider the pay option in Pacific Coffee there. It's not much money after all. I'm sure they've got sockets all over which you can sneak your plug in. When you've fully recharged, you can come back out to the mall and surf for free again.

Just a suggestion!

I actually went to Festival Walk yesterday, but where do you 'sit' then ?

Oman Mercenary has pissed of a few people
ZyXEL Wi-FI Sniffer + USB adaptor.

$580 will get you a ZyXEL AG-225H a-b-g Wi-Fi sniiffer-outer from Donald Yip @ Everbest Technologies Ltd in Wing Kut Street in Central. Not only does it "sniff-out" a+ b+g mode of wi-fi's but can connect to a USB port and be used to connect to Wi-Fi services.

The beauty of it is that you DON'T have to power up a Laptop solely to go hunting for an open Wi-Fi signal.

It also shows encrypted signals too - but you can't connect to them of course.

I plan to use mine for an upcoming London UK trip.

Well if you lunch there as well, you can sit in the food hall, or I use to like going to Oliver's Sandwiches and sitting outside the shop. Or just get a coffee from McDonalds which has outside seating so you can get good reception.
