Thumbs down Cathay Pacific Reviews

hi all,
I am in the process of moving to HK and had a strange experience with cathy pacific which I had not seen with any other airline that I have flown with.... On my business class ticket they refused to allocate me seat saying that my business class ticket was not full fare... whereas it was..I have flown with Singapore Air, Emirates, Air France, KLM etc on biz class and have never see this issue

biz class tickets are already on priority and are never refused seats... It was unbelievable. I am not sure who gave them the award of 'Airline of the Year'

They are way behind somewhere close to China Airlines or Garuda.. So be careful when flying with CX

I'd say, hunt down your travel agent.

Been flying CX for about 13-14 years and have never had a problem like the one you mentioned. If you have a reservation and seat allocation on business, there is absolutely no reason they should bump you off.

While I know their level of service has gone downhill over the last decade and their economy seats have just enough legroom for midgets -- I am actually pretty happy with their service.

On another note... most people who post a bad review in their first post on the forums are generally on a windup rampage ... If you had a few more posts to your name, I'd have volunteered to look up someone at the GM level in CX to deal with your issue.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying here... are you saying that you had a business class ticket and a reservation on a specific flight and they did not let you board the flight? Or are you saying that they wouldn't allocate you a specific seat on the plane in advance? Or what?

Like all airlines, CX occasional overbooks business class to allow for "no shows" (of which there can be a very large number on some routes). If they get their guesses wrong and too many people turn up then they will look for volunteers to go on a later flight or to take a downgrade - they will compensate anyone who accepts, the value of the compensation being dependent on the inconvenience level (not much if the next flight is 30 mins later, quite a lot if it's a downgrade on a 15 hour flight). If they can't find volunteers then they have no choice but to bump people off the flight or downgrade. If they do this then they will start first with the people who have no frequent flyer status and bought the cheapest tickets. But again they will compensate.

Random windup.... and a couple of "checks" we do on users don't add up.

I'm betting this user does not come back to followup.

Anyone who puts CX in the same league as Garuda and China Airlines has to be suspect!

don't know why such wind-ups though..
wat purpose does it achieve ? 8-P

anyway on the same subject.
i have been taking alot of cathay these days because of the 'friendlier' schedule (sg-hk flight) and my company's policy (for biz trip).

i think the service personnel are quite good. but their procedure might need better definition. Not sure if they warrant the 'airline of the year' thingy they advertise every single chance they have.

SIA is better in terms of the SOPs but not if the service crew handling your asle is having a bad day and gives u the mechanical smile.

my comparison is strictly in economy class though. havn't flew SIA biz class before...

Ah freeier you haven't lived until you've been on SIA business class - it is the biz . You know the reputation in this the region and all that

I'm another for CX. Been flying them for over 10 years now and always come away satisfied. Seating in economy is a little cramped but apart from that service and facilities have always been great. For their prices they're hard to beat.

Good work Shri!

Desperate work by the competition I say...... Tho, I suppose this will become more frequent.... The price you pay for being so rated in Google!
