What is the approximate travel time from the New Territory

Even though HK is small...it quite depends on where you are in New Territories. For example, from Shatin to take a train to Kowloon will take less than half an hour. However from Yuen Long to go to Hong Kong by bus will take at least an hour or so. Difficult to answer your question based on limited info.

If you choose to stay in a redeveloped out-lying island, e.g. Park Island (Ma Wan), it takes you only 25 min. by 24-hr. ferry to HK central district. It is a modern housing estate facilitating surburban lifestyle (clean air) as well as modern living. Access by MTR (underground) is also available but transfer is necessary by dedicated shuttle bus service (short journey) for connection to all parts of HK by MTR, altogether taking about 35 - 45 min. to HK central and Kowloon.

If you choose the popular Discovery Bay (Lantau Island), you may enjoy similar transportation service.

If you select a village house in other out-lying island (Cheung Chau, Lamma), you have to rely only on ferry service to central (express ferry at 30 min or cheaper ordinary ferry at 60 min)
