Oh yes, I'll be there at the Gifts n Premium show. Alright then, we can go to the computer centre from there.

I looked up a few sites and Maxtor seemed to be the most popular brand. KIA also suggested it. Do you think differently?

(I will access data from the drive off and on)

Well I could say same thing, being a programmer by profession. We are just lazy I guess.

If you have a tighter budget you could just spend $80 and put an old IDE hard disk into an external USB enclosure. That makes a great and cheap backup solution. Leave it plugged into a USB port and power it on only when you need it.

It is great- i was doing what Discobay was suggesting, but on occasion I just wouldn't get a connection so got pissed off with it. The Brick is very quick on upload and download time (7200rpm on USB2)- more to the point it gives me a lot of peace of mind with backed up files- I was working on 2GB photoshop files and din't want to lose them, hence the security need.
I bought it in the Apple shop in 298 Hennessey for about 1200 chips.
Disco, I use an old laptop hard drive in one of those little boxes for music and that works fine too.

Yeah those laptop drives are great as they can take their power from the USB hub. Mine needs a separate power line because of its 7200rpm spin speed.

I've got a Maxtor 300GB One Touch II drive. So far no problems with mine, however, I have read of lot of people having their drives going south on them. That and also be wary of the supplied software which wreaks havoc in your system. Fortunately I read the bad reviews of the software so didn't load it. I also know of people with the new One Touch III who have found it to be working great so far.

I've also got a Seagate 300GB SATA drive to backup the Maxtor which has been causing troubles on and off - never gets recognised as a external drive when I plug it in no matter which port I try. The data seems safe though.

In addition to Wanchai also have a look Jumbo 1st floor of the IT mall in Mongkok. I've been buying there for a couple of years now they've got a huge selection and are good on warranty. Prices are starting to increase but they're still comptetitive

Discobay, that is a good idea, using a IDE hard drive in the USB port. But I do not have any old hard drives. So, heres the question.....which is better, buying a new external hard drive or buying a new IDE drive to be used as an external drive? Price is a consideration. But keeping the data safe is more important.

Shweta,
Probably you didnt quite get DB. You have two options for external hard drives
(1) IDE hard drive (3.5 " or something) with a case which connects it to USB
(2) Laptop hard drive (2.5" or something) which connects to USB directly
Laptop drives are slightly expensive though.. I bought (2) as it doesnt require extra power supply as opposed to (1).
