I kinda think it ain't that hard to get a credit card here... i got my citibank card within 1-2 weeks after 've arrived in HK.

Yes, i'm a Singapore Citibank customer.. But this has got nothing to do with my relationship with Citibank sg coz they do not share records/accounts from wat i was told.

I provided a letter from my company stating my annual income, my residential address (a svs apartment then) & my job title (which is nothing impressive). I also brought along my passport & my employment contract for them to make copies. & they gave me a pretty decent credit limit of slightly lesser than 2 mths of my mthly. Citibank rep said it's to provision for rental since my income included rent allowance.

Likewise for my HSBC, everything was processed easily.. funny why everyone had such major issues. The only problems i have, if any, are with the bad quality HSBC ATM cards. They keep becoming faulty when the other cards in my wallet work perfectly fine.. i've changed 2 within this 1 mth i came to hk!

They gave me a really hard time and circled issues around. It took my relationship manager back home some hard pushing to get things started. But I agree to look for other banks, Im also looking into Citi ang Hang Seng this Sat.

ayukobaby, hope I get my PSP, I did apply for the promo.

Good to hear that alls well for you. HSBC is no different, they only add a layer of people to bull doze the hardwork through. I was also conned by their ad about the world's local bank, now I think they are the worst local bank. That said, they do have the most promo thing to compensate for the bad reliability. I was stuck with HSBC for 3 months when I just arrived here, I took my money to Citibank and never look back.

At the premier levels all banks are generally as good. At the lower tiers all banks are generally as bad. Some local banks work out better than the international if you're looking for basic services.

The weird thing is, it seems to selectively affect a lot of people. For example, our HSBC cards work just fine, but my wife regularly (once every 4 to 6 weeks) demagnetizes her Standard Chartered cards. We current suspect that this might be related to a card reader in the Cyberport Parking lot.
