~Gyms_Martial Arts/Self defence_Archery~

Dear forum members!

As I (f,19 years) will come to HK in August I search some appropriate possibilies for keeping my shape and fitness!
Would anyone willing to help me out, as I am totally new to the city? This would be cool!

1. Gyms

Where to find, how much does it cost per month, what is it like there mostly?

2. Semi-contact martial arts or self defence
As I am searching for a sport, whichs trains my agility, my reflexes & my mobility in general, I suppose martial arts would be good. (btw I don´t like Aerobic!!!)
I am new to this matter, so I definately need some advice. I have also an interest in full-contact martial arts, but I can`t imagine how to learn this. I will work in the office, so it wouldn`t be neat` n proper to have bruises in my face, would it?
Nevertheless I am intrested in and inured to such possibly harms.

3. Archery
Where to practise? What about the fees?

So...that would be all!
I am looking forward to your help, this would be great.
Thanks a lot!!

martial arts

Any Boxing or other Full contact sport player here?

Hi Anna Marie,

I've pasted the link to one of my previous posts about systema, a russian martial art that I practice/teach in Hong Kong. If it sounds interesting to you, check it out.

As far as gyms go, you probably should try Pure, Fitness First, or Physical. These are the better gyms in Hong Kong. Avoid California Fitness; they're cheaper but the facilities are usually not as nice, and the "trainers" are known to be pushy salesman.

Search the forum too; there have been heaps of threads concerning gyms in Hong Kong.

Good luck,

L

For contact martial arts I came across this link recently to a kyokushinkai school. But if you don't want to look like a beaten punch bag every day you could give these a visit Shotokan, Gojuryu.

I've done some archery here. I was much younger and weaker back then, so pulling the bowstring was hard. I believe it was at Wu Kwai Sha, a youth camp.

For genuine martial arts and combat sports, try here: www.kylin-bjjhk.com The only problem when you work in HK, is whether your work schedule will allow you to train as often as you would else where.

If you're interested in gyms, there are tons here. Membership ranges from around $300 up to $800+ a month. I work out at Fitness First in Sheung Wan. I'm paying $428 a month, and from what I hear, I'm paying a little too much. That being said, I work out 4x a week, so I guess I'm getting my money's worth.
