How much do you need to live for a month? Since I'm moving to hong kong for my first job since leaving uni money will be abit tight until my first payday. But I'm prepared to rough it abit (bringing over a sleeping bag and mat) in my unfurnished apartment, but without a fridge or anything, I'll have to eat out alot. So how much hk$ will I spend every day just on typical transport and food, and what other big expenses will I have to look out for?

hello josiah! my new employer in hk estimates the living costs including apartment about 10 000HKD. This should be enough when you live economically.

Luckily, food and transportation in Hong Kong are relatively cheaper than other cities. You can get by eating out, quite well mind you, for like $120 a day. Transportation depends on where you are going every day.. If you are staying on one side of the harbour, you'll never have to pay more than $7 or so for a trip on the MTR, each way.

What do you spend, per month, on food at present where you are? What kind of places do you eat (McDonalds, Bar food, restaurants, posh places?). I think we could get a good estimate based on your current living style.
