Holiday In Tokyo : Need A Babysitter Hello there, I'm leaving monday for 4 days in Tokyo for my birthday with my husband & our 1 year old baby. I just had the rates of a baby sitter in our hotel and it's killing me it's 230HK$ per hour the first two hours and then 260HK$ per hour. No way I pay that !! The thing is I dont want to spend my 3 night in our room and not see any of Tokyo by night... Has someone already lived in Tokyo and can give me the number of a good babysitting service at a "normal" and reasonnable price? Thanks in advance, It would be soooo disapointing if not... Alexandra Waiting for your answers....

What you you regard as reasonable? Given that the hotel room will most likely be costing HK$2500+ per night that seems like a small additional price. You are paying a premium for the comfort that you are buying the service from a known and trusted source (the hotel chain) - they will know exactly how to get anything they might need in the hotel in an emergency. Getting someone from some random agency is going to be inherently more risky. An "off the wall" suggestion would be to ask your husband if he could find a colleague or friend there who had a teenage daughter who might want to earn a little extra pocket money by doing this. But I'd be surprised if you could find anyone to do it for less than, say, HK$150 per hour.

Given that even a waiter/waitress in tokyo is being paid 80~100hkd per hour waiting ppl, I'd think a professionally good babysitter would cost more than 200hkd. Furthermore your's is a one time service. Unless u are willing to try the bucket shop type of service ? hmmm

Tokyo is the most expensive city in the world, what did you expect? Didn't you check this before you booked the holiday?

What are these answers?!? I find all of you very agressive, what's happening, is Geoexpat the new palce to fight under the comfort of an alias? Obviously the 3 personns who answered my thread have no answer to my question so have waisted my time and theirs. Next time, moove on & don't loose time or/and energy to write threads which are lacking of interest. ps: For the record, JonnyC, HongKong is also knonw as a very expensive city and I've always manage to avoid paying that much for the services I need. Therefore as you are 28, single and apparently childless, I dont really see the point of interfering on that forum.

an answer that doesn't suit u is aggressive ? then i guess you have faced a too rosy life... we were merely honest and telling you why u can't expect that kind of good deal. how u take it is up to u... sigh... being good and barked by 'dxx' (chinese idiom)

Next time, do your research before you book a holiday, simple really. And if you don't want people interferring, don't post on a PUBLIC forum, again it's a rather simple concept Last edited by JonnyC; 25-04-2006 at 01:47 AM. |

You might want to try your luck on geobaby.com. Having said that $250ish / hour does not sound too unreasonable for Tokyo, given that you probably want the sitter to speak some english.
