Shop for homewares, etc

I am visiting HK right now and will be moving here in 2 weeks. Where in the city can I find household appliances like hangers, trash bins, bath towels, alarm clock etc? Without spending an arm and a leg in a high end department store?

Thanks!

Hi,

Well if you're interested in a one-stop shop then Ikea would be your best option. You can also pick up decent hangers and other home accessories at the $10 stores (Japan Home Centre).

Remember to check HK Magazine and SCMP for departing expat's leavings...anyone who has been here any time at all will leave lots behind at low cost to incoming expats.

Question for JJExpat

Can you tell me if there is an online version to HK Magazine, and what is SCMP? Anywhere expats post items for sale online?

Our traffic is picking up on

HK Magazine is not online.

Hi there BWC,

SCMP is the South China Morning Post. As for housewares, PriceRight or Ikea, perhaps. Sincere is also good though I don't find the selection to be large. Also, for stainless steel, check out the streets aound the night market in Yau Ma Tei (Kowloon side). Restaurant quality. Some people think that the Chinese dept store (CCC?) is cheap--but in my estimation, while there is a lot of cheap stuff, you might also get a better del elsewhere on the items you actually want. Sogo is great for those things you want a little extra style for and this is the time to buy during summer sales.

Good luck!
