amplifier and speakers

Hi there,

Does anybody know where I can pick up a good amplifier (receiver) and a decent set of speakers for use with my DVD player? I'm planning to bother my neighbours

Er, amplifier or receiver? They are different things...

Are you looking just for an audio system here, or something that hooks together to form a home theatre?

ahem...yes I meant a receiver

Just looking for something better than my TV speakers, and which could be upgraded to a full home theatre system when the budget allows it.

Right now I wasn't planning on spending more than a couple of thousand, so I guess B&W is out of the question...

I could offer you a pair of Rogers LS7s ( http://www.mhennessy1.f9.co.uk/rogers/ls7_review.htm ), stands, and an Audiolab 8000A ( http://www.artech-electronics.com/us...000amkiii.html ) for HK$2000 (buyer collects) if you're interested. Good condition for stuff that over 20 years old. Slight staining on the top of the speaker cabinets but perfect working order. These are still serious audiophile bits of kit.

Thanks - but I think the lady of the house would have my hide if I came home with a couple of 30 litre monsters

I'll probably be looking for something a bit more slimline...

Thanks for the offer tho!

Mong Kok:

添置商業中心
Grandcastle Commercial Building
2T Sai Yeung Choi Street South

Shing Yau Building ( 誠友 ) (MTR exit E2 - Body Shop is on the ground floor of this building). Not the ground floor - stores are signed in the elevator.

Tak Fat Building (德發 ) corner of Nelson and Tung Choi St (Ladies market Street). The main downstairs entrance is on Nelson street. There is a second, smaller entrance on Tung Choi. The main entrance to the building is here too. There are more stores upstairs.

Sham Shui Po:

There are stores at street level on Apliu Street and even more on first floors. More hi fi stores can be found in the area, but Apliu street has the greatest concentration.

I am looking to buy quality used Hi fi in Hong Kong before I return to UK in Autumn 2008... domestic equipment to match my Quad/Linn LP12 and Nakamichi Dragon... looking for quality monitor / shelf speakers [wife does not like Quad Electrostatics unless I can mount them in acoustic boxes... rear dipole problem] and or any exotic valve amps / also CD player needed.

Kind regards
