New to HK... Looking for work!

Hey all,

I've recently moved to HK (2 weeks) but am also holder of the HKID card so have the right to work.

I've been reading through some of your forums and ppl suggest that networking is the best way to gain a job... Unfotunately, I've just moved here so my network is very small...

The internet sites are quite limiting as my chinese is ok - but probably not acceptable in the business world, so I'm trying to find positions that require native english speakers (I don't want to teach).

Any other suggestions of finding work??? Or where I should start networking?

Thx

Networking easier said than done. Exploit every opportunity you have to let people know what you are doing here and how they can help with direction, advice and contacts. That includes your friends, the various chambers of commerce, industry bodies, the meets on here etc.

If your banking background is in the product side then it looks like your best option would be within a sales/marketing group of an IB, fund manager, private banking group. But I take it your shift to marketing is because you want to get away from the banking world? Then really it's about identifying which industry appeals to you and chasing the firms within that.

Agreed with Nation 100% about the networking, Definately join us for one of our social events as theres a few marketing and banking guys here and maybe I can introduce you to some of them.

I think its about time for our third career break network meeting, So I'll try and arrange something for the middle of next week.
