Tandoor to reopen

Finally, one of our favorite Indian restaurants is back. Tandoor is reopening its doors in a new location on Lyndhurst Terrace.

============

TANDOOR INDIAN RESTAURANT OPENS IN NEW LOCATION

Hong Kong's oldest and best loved Indian restaurant, Tandoor, is back with its superb food and great service in an elegant new space in Lyndhurst Terrace.

After closing last year, the restaurant has undergone a total refit and expansion. Enhancements include a new look, new chef and a new location on the 1/F of Lyndhurst Tower, 1 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central.

Since it was first established in 1987, Tandoor has become renown for serving traditional, authentic Indian food, drawing a loyal following of fans from a broad range of ethnicities, including expatriates, tourists and the Indian Community.

According to the restaurant's manager, Mr Tariq Mahmood, who joins the group from the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Dubai, the new Tandoor reflects the owner's commitment to enhance levels of service, maintain popularity amongst loyal customers, and attract new multicultural and Chinese diners.

Mahmood says Tandoor aspires to a more modern, yet contemporary feel, with interiors featuring wooden floors and oyster shell textures, complemented by the warmth of bronze, gold and marble textured wall panels.

Plasma screens, open glass-encased wine racks, eye-catching Indian artifacts, and recessed lighting and alcoves, complete the look to create a favorable setting that is bright and inviting. One thing that has not changed, says Mr Mahmood, is the high quality of food.

Thanks to the appointment of new Executive Chef, Anil Khurana, formerly regional chef for Hyatt International in India, the menu will now feature new Indian dishes as well as regional specialties, tandoori delicacies and traditional kababs including Jheenga Ka Salan (prawns cooked in tangy gravy); Gosht Methi (boneless lamb cooked with fresh fenugreek leaves) and Paneer Makhan Wala (cubes of cottage cheese in tomato and onion gravy) - all made with fresh Indian herbs and spices.

However, many of the restaurant's classic dishes, that diners have come to know and love, will also continue to be served.

Lunchtime guests can select from a wide variety of Indian specialities from the specially constructed, mirrored bar from which a daily Indian lunch buffet is served.

The extensive wine list offers a wide range of international wines - some of them by the glass - from countries such New Zealand, Australia, Chile, Germany and California with certain selections changing on a monthly basis.

Meanwhile, waiting staff will continue to serve in national Indian dress, whilst a traditional live Indian band will play every night to create an ambiance that is lively, yet intimate and relaxed.

For those who prefer more privacy, Tandoor's two private dining rooms are equipped with the latest audiovisual amenities and can cater for parties from twelve and forty persons respectively.

As far as pricing is concerned, Mr Mahmood states that good Indian food need not be expensive.

"It is for this reason that despite the investment this year, there will not be any significant increases in our prices," says Mahmood. "At the end of the day, we want Tandoor to be recognized for offering great food and friendly service at affordable prices."

The Tandoor Indian Restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner.
