I tried a search, but I think most people use "AC" when talking about air conditioners, so came up with nothing. Anyway, 2 of 3 of my A/C's don't really put out much cold air, and they are quite a bit noisier than the one that works properly. Our local handyman mentioned that they need to be cleaned, and said he can clean both for $600. That seems like a lot, but I'm not sure what the cleaning involves.. If it involves taking them apart and dipping them in a cleaning solution, then that seems fair, but if they are going to just spray some cleaner in there or something, I can do that myself.. Anyway the quesiton is, how do you folks keep your A/C units functioning normally? I can see how a thorough cleaning could be involved, but I just want to double check with you guys first. Thanks!

i'm pretty sure they open them up and hose down with chemicals that clean out the filters etc. at least that's what i've seen on the street. $600 for 2 sounds pretty good, though i think at some point it becomes cheaper to replace them as older units become more and more energy inefficient.

The price for cleaning is varied from HK$200~HK$350 depends on the HP OR BTU/hr of that Air Conditioner. If you can speak Cantonese, try to find the local repair shop to give a good quote. And, you said some with quite a bit noisier. I think it may be caused by the wore FAN Bearing after long time use OR the supension of Compressor. -------------------------- I just searched this site for your price reference: http://hongkong.ads28.com/big5/Item/.../ViewItem.html They claim you can have 15% discount on the listed price OR 20% for cleansing 3 units.
