HK recommendations for short-timer

Hi, I'm just blowing through town for the first time (Jan. 15-20), and I'm looking for a few recommendations in the way of bars and restaurants that might be enjoyable for an adventurous (but non-Chinese speaking) tourist. Of course I've consulted a few guides, but this forum looks promising for more insightful info. Thanks in advance! (Oh -- I'm staying in Kowloon, but I'm open to suggestions all around the area.)

Pete

Thanks for the response....

Looks like a good place...I've found blues clubs to be pretty cool all over the world.

Can you be a bit more specific on what you consider to be a good bar? Sports Bar? Wine Bar? Champagne Bar? Live music?

Thanks also...looks like a good area. I'm not too particular about bars...as I'm 40ish, prefer places not overrun by extremely young people. Live music can be a plus, and a good sports bar is always nice to know about too. Martini places can be good as wel.

For food, would like to experience some of the better local cuisine (or at least that part which foreigners tend to like).

Had a nice visit to HK! I enjoyed the 48th St.Chicago place; if you're into old school rock and blues, there's a band there called "two tonnes" that is really pretty good. Some other Americans -- southerners -- dropped in and the place started jumping around 1am. The word "sonofabitch!" was heard in reference to the guitar playing!

I enjoyed the food at India Today (I think that's what it was called). However, if the best Szechuan food in Hong Kong is really the Red Pepper, that's too bad. It seemed just okay to me, nothing special.

Also, the bartenders at Stormy Weather in LKF were pretty cool...

For those of you who travel, I highly recommend Kuala Lumpur for bars and restaurants. Singapore, on the other hand, was a snooze, possibly because of Chinese New Year...

Thanks again for the assistance! -Pete
