Going to Shenzhen for shopping trip - help!

Does anyone have some good Shenzhen shopping / hotel advice? We are off to try our luck with the tailors, etc and would love some advice. Any good links / maps / recommendations would be really helpful. Leaving on Thursday and no idea where to go.
Please share your experiences!
Thanks so much,
V.

Bargain your ass off. Whatever price they tell you, offer them about 10-20% and work your way up from it till you both agree on a price...

can have a look at this for some info on SZ :

http://www.chinatravel1.com/english/...zhen/index.htm

can probably get what you want at Lo Wu Comm. Ctr. they have many tailors there (throughout the ctr but most condensed on 4/F & 5/F). there's one shop on the 5/F that has loads & loads of fabric + tailors galore - it's at the end of the floor). see lots of foreigners & HKers getting stuff made. of course, always agree on a price before paying and get s'thg in writing. this weekend will surely be PACKED w/ people. good luck !!

Received wisdom from regular Shenzhen shoppers seems to be that the "real price" is somewhere between 15% and 25% of the price they first ask for...

Personally I'd rather shop in HK and be reasonably confident that the market has levelled up the prices at a competitive level rather than rely on my haggling skills for each and every purchase.

The novelty of haggling wears off real quick.

I'm with you. Fun the first couple of times and then a hassle.
If you are only going to shop for a day and are trying to buy a bunch of stuff, you will spend the majority of your time arguing over prices.
And the sellers have developed the disturbing trait of grabbing at your arms if you try to leave.

I don't mind the arm grabbing if it's one of the cute young girls who works there...lol...the game really gets old quickly. OH...DO NOT BUY ANY MP3 PLAYERS OR MEMORY CARDS THERE. You might as well flush your money down the toilet..some of the clothes are poorly made too and the dye in em will run...
