I saw the thread on whether or not to get a landline, and someone mentioned fax spam. I thought, yeah....seen it before. Boy was I wrong. The phone has only been connected two days, and I had to unplug it last night after the 4th fax call at 3am. Will it ever end? Am I forced to unplug the phone every night?

Thanks for the info. I rang the PCCW fax spam hotline, and actually got to talk to a real person. (the shock. The horror.) Had our number added to the do not call lists, except it will take upto a week to filter through. Thanks for all your help.

I'd really like to know if it works or not. I'm a bit too cynical to think that the morons who send us faxes actually use the do not call list.

Fax SPAM I would also like to know if this works. Although our problem is no where near as bad, we get them in our starting from about 6PM usually. We used to have a plain paper fax so we would end up with loads of wasted paper and Ink, trying to sell us stuff like... Well paper and Ink! I set up a fax/Voice server which answers and records Voice messages or Faxes on the PC and emails the result. This would not be of great use at home of course. I was informed by our Chinese speaking staff that PCCW said there was nothing they could do! It wouldn't surprise me if they were wrong!

Well it has been over a week, and we are getting a diminished number of calls. It went from 3 a night, to one every odd night. Still a pain in the ass, as we are going to have to remember to unplug the phone. Oh well, I guess that is the price we pay for getting a landline.

| I don't ever get these calls, and my number is in PCCW's public directory. I have never registered with the "no junk" service. But I have set my line so that it will not accept calls which do not disclose their CLI (calling line ID). You can do this by dialling *76 See http://www.pccw.com/eng/Products/For...l?sectionid=11 for details. Note that incoming international calls still get through because the network can recognise the difference between "number unavailable" and "number withheld".
