What you were told was right. You need to terminate your visa first (in my case I stayed in Macau overnight and came back to HK in the morning). I assume it can be troublesome if you need to be at work early in the morning (well, there are ferries departing from Macau at 5.00am!).

Good luck with your visa. It shouldn't be a problem.
Just a quick question, when you say that you terminated your visa, did you do anything else than staying over a night in Macau?
Can I for example go to Macau the 11th with a student visa expering the 14th, and just stay over a night and then when I cross the border I get a new tourist visa?

Thanks for the help

I wonder which country you are from. Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Iceland nationals all get 90 days. Even Latvian, Lithuenian and Estonian get 90 days. Or are you talking about many years back?
