I am considering a job offer in HK, have enjoyed reading these forums so far and have learned a lot (thanks!). I'm looking for insight into possible opportunities for my spouse. We are not worried about finding a full time job, more concerned that he has something to occupy his time and mind. He is a mechanical engineer, bachelor's degree in engineering from uni in U.S., no Chinese language skills. From what I have read here, he will probably have a hard time finding work as an engineer - is that accurate? What about tutoring/teaching/editing technical writing? If those are possibilities, would it be easier to do it freelance, or through some kind of school or agency? If technical English isn't an option, will it be hard for him to find work teaching English conversation without previous experience or teaching certificate? Any other ideas for someone with a technical background? And one final question, I've seen reference here to the work status of a dependent visa holder changing - can anyone enlighten me to what exactly that means? Thanks for any and all advice!

only joking Well if you want to be on the safe side, tell your hubby to do a TEFL or similar course...shouldnt cost much and shouldnt be too hard nor take too much time. some can even be done over the internet...so iv heard. A TESL + Caucasian shouldnt be too hard to find a teaching job. But dont expect to be raking it in. If you want more money, get a Montessori certificate!!!! $15k 13 month salery profit sharing Accomodation Not great but at least you are doing something.

Well, the airport is always looking for people. Its also a good place to work with good career developement. You really have to do some research yourself. Or your hubby can be my man servant? il give him as much water as he can drink and a singular banana?
