Which cable company is getting the rights for World Cup?

Hihi

I have NowTV and I am not sure whether they will be getting the rights for World Cup Germany. I really hope not to subscribe for CableTV and pay one more round of fees. So far no news on which party will be getting the broadcast rights.

Thanks

If I were a betting man (and I'm not), I'd bet on the Uncle Li and Son gang to get the licenses. Expect them to stream to 3G phones also. Not sure if they plan on rolling out a few HD boxes by then.

Heard it was going to be PPV, is that right ? Don't really fancy having to fork out extra to watch games at midnight and 3 in the morning.

Also, Cable TV may not have English commentators, but i am sure you will see some pretty Chinese dancing girls.

every world cup, HK soccer fans have to deal with this... Just 1 company get the exclusive right. Not only you have to pay for it... the cable company, " in this case, Cable TV" forced customers to sign long term contract to sign up! Sounds like a good deal but apparently getting u into a trap with long term contract. How pity it's to do business this way.

As a die hard sports fan, I strongly recommend to all of us to go out to bars/restaurants and watch the game u want to watch instead of sign up for long term contract with cable company!

Unlike in States, ESPN get the right where most of the ppl could watch the games. however, americans dont give a damn about world cup soccer anyway..

Whong

PS. I am not a supporter of NOWTV nor CableTV... it's just how those cable companies run their business... at the end of the days, sports fans suffer.

whong

the scenario you painted is in fact what i hope to avoid. i am considering subscribing to CableTV now but renewable on a monthly basis. I don't wish to sign up for another plan in addition to NowTV. I am sure if I wait until May I will force to sign for a silly 1 year package for cable. Given that there is no annoucements yet on the broadcast rights it could still swing either way. Also I read in the papers that CableTV will lose its rights to EPL in 2007 or 2008. I hope Li give his best shot for this.

cheers
