www.bodybuilding.com awesome site with forums and a great store...I don't recommend you purchase any supplements other than a good multi-vitamin, since you are still quite young and a beginner. The site has a lot of articles on nutrition and great beginner workouts, I recommend you take a look around.. http://www.t-nation.com/ Another awesome site, great articles, though there are a lot of advertisements for supplements. Like I said earlier, stay away from the supplements. I am not going to go into the science of it all, because I think the earlier posts, as well as the site links I listed will suffice. Changing your lifestyle is going to single handedly be the most important factor in whether or not you accomplish your goals. I think goals are a good way for you start out. Set new goals every week. Don't set them too high in the beginning because you wont acheive them, set them high enough where you will work and sweat for them, but make sure they are acheivable. If they aren't, you will never succeed, get frustrated, and never become one with the lifestyle. Furthermore, don't be shy to ask for help. Most good gym guys will be hapy to help you, just dont interrupt them during their sets. Wait till the end and ask them. If they are pompous towards you, dont sweat it, they aren't someone you will want help from. Finally, don't concentrate on what others are doing. Focus on yourself. You're not in a competition. Just because guy x squats 315 doesn't mean you have to. Just remember good form will make for good gains and good gains come clean...i.e., don't look for the easy way out. Hard work pays off and when it does, you will be amazed by what your body can do. peace

Ha glad this kid brought this subject up...Im moving to Shenzhen for the summer and Im wondering where there is a nice gym? Needs to have an extensive free weight room as well as some leg machines i.e, leg press, leg extension and calf raise. Furthermore, would need a full range body machine for doing chest exercises as well as tri's and some shoulder and back work, i.e., pulldowns, seated rows and crossovers... Let me know where you guys train and what the rates are.

Don't know about Shenzhen, but I've been to 3 different gyms in the last year and none of 'em had calf raise machines. What gives?

Hi TDG, a friend on mine was in a similiar position (cant do press ups), bicep curls work the bicep, press up require the front delt, triceps and pec muscle. You can try bent knee press up initially or you can get some one to help you on the way up, then concentrate on the negative motion. You dont need to apply any training theories as this will only complicate matter, just try on a regular basis take a short break when your tired . You can also try pushing your palms together with your arms extended straight, this can help strengthen the pec muscles. Feel free to PM me

heh, that's what I was told in high school by the PE teachers. Might be BS but it definitely applies to other mammals like whales (blubber!) I usually lift weights then follow it up with 20-30 mins on the bike... CRC or China Products have dumbell sets available.
