Actually I know this one. I moved to FL for a few years ago and just went by and picked up a FL license after showing them my GA license. They didn't even take my GA license away so I still have both. Which was good since things didn't work out and I moved back to GA within 6 months.

The Georgia officials told me I would have to surrender the international and/or HK license to get the Georgia license.

My husband has a US (Virginia) license. Is there any time limit on applying for and getting the HK license without the test. Its been 7 months since we moved to HK.

Legally you should apply for the HK license as soon as you move to HK with the intention of staying for more than 12 months. In practice I think you need to have done it within those 12 months.

More importantly don't forget to file your 1040 every year if you're a US Citizen or Greencard Holder. The repercussions of not doing this are far greater than losing your US driving license.

Regards

John

I will not have a US address.

HK$900 for a 10-year licence. (Different fee and validity for those over 60 years.)

At the risk of sounding stupid, what is a '1040' and where does it need to be filed?

The 1040 is the US tax form filed with the US IRS every year by April 15th for the previous year's federal taxes. It would be a disaster to fail to file for years because if they ever figured that out you'd regret it forever.
Luckily tax preparation is part of my package.
