If you travel a lot and maintain Cathay Pacific Silver status or above then I would go for the CItibank CX Cobrand Visa card at the highest level they will give you. No annual fee if you maintain CX Silver or above. For the top card you get 1 AsiaMile for every HK$8 of local spending and 1 AM per HK$4 of overseas spending. Plus Visa Platinum perks, travel insurance, etc. (I have the Citi CX Platinum Select Preferred)

If you dont maintain Silver status, you can still get the fees waived if you spend HK$150,000 a year or more on the card, at least I think that is the case.

Yes - correct $150,000 per year for Platinum Select Preferred, $100,000 per year for Platinum Select (which only gets 1 AM per HK$6 of overseas spending).

well...i fly cathay pacific business class roundtrip from usa twice a year. problem is i put that on my corporate AMEX cause the company pays for it. thats the only big purchase i do every year.... with out that...i would be surprised if i spent any more than 50K HKD a year on it. is there any cards that give a year or X amount of months with no interest? also...i forgot to check with them...but what are interest rates like here? they cant really do a credit check on me...so am i gonna get a ridiulously high rate? i know we did that to foreigners in USA

usually you dont.... i just prefer to keep it all the same so it makes my life easier as far as paying bills and fees...and sometimes they give you benefits if you have more types of accounts with the same company

| No - no need for a Citi bank account (I bank with HSBC). And the spending requirement is irrelevant if you fly business class to the US twice a year because that is enough to maintain you at Silver Status in Marco Polo (assuming you put you miles there) so the card is free. It is very easy to set up a PPS account so that you can pay off your Citi Credit Card bill from another bank account online if you prefer not to use autopay, or if they won't give you a big enough credit limit and you need to pay it off more than once per month. | I bank with HSBC but got myself a Citibank credit card too. But unlike in Singapore, they dun allow 2 VISA cards application in one go... I was thinking of applying for both the Cathay Pacific Plat card and the Visa Plat card here in HK coz i duno which has better perks.. I'm using their Visa Plat.. might apply for the CX plat if i do end up flying more with Cathay or the any airline that gives Asia Miles. As for which card to choose, Unless u can evaluate on what is that u spend on often (like Fine dining, Shopping or drinking), else i think the Citibank Payout (or isit Payback) Mastercard which gives u rebates in cash wil be a gd bet. |
