for cash back credit card, we are using Standard Chartered. they give 5% cash back on selected merchants and 0.4% on other merchants.

If you spend enough to get enough to use them then the Citi CX card gives enough AsiaMiles to be equivalent to about a 2.5% cashback on all HK purchases, and 5% on overseas purchases.

(HK$1M of HK purchases gets you 125K AsiaMiles which is good for a business class roundtrip to London which is worth about HK$25K)

credit card

I'm clinging onto topic relevance here by my finger tips - how easy is it tofind seat availability when booking trips to London or to Singapore with the Asiamiles or airmiles you get on your credit cards?

I had a quick look on the airline websites for London trips, and most dates , including all weekends seem to be blocked off.

That's one of the reasons why I was thinking of just going for a cashback card - although from everyone's information, it sounds as if airmiles offers a better deal in terms of rewards/$ spent.

I am a local here. As I know, DBS, Mahattan (Standard Chartered Bank), Hang Send Bank offer cash rebate (they have different regulations). But I am not sure if they offer the same to expats.

DBS cash back $1 to ur next statement for every $250 expense. Mahattan cash back periodically ( 3 months??). Hang Seng Bank u can use their ($1 cash dollar = $250 expenses) cash dollors at selected merchants or u can use the cash dollars to redeem for gifts or cash coupon. Most other banks u can get points for ur expenses with credit card and u can redeemp for gifts or cash coupons for certain shops. u can check their websites accordingly.

Btw, VISA and MASTER cards are widely acceptly by shops in HK.

what about 0% interest for X amount of months?

thats a common thing in US...didnt see any so far here. i loved that feature cause i would open a new card with 1 year zero interest, buy something expensive, and pay it off over 12 months. then close card and open new card somewhere else with similar zero interest...and buy something else that is expensive....

nice way to pay installments that are same as cash

anything like that here?

Haven't heard of such thing so far.

What kind of things u want to buy? Some banks have join promotion with some merchants to provide interest free payments by 12 monthly instalments (e.g. Hang Seng Bank joins with Broadway which sells electical applicances and computers).
