Also not forgetting that you will most likely be taking your test in an automatic car and if you want to learn manual shift then you'll have to learn in a van!

Hi,
A van driving lisence is different to a cars here.
Classification 1 = Private Car. 1A = Automatic Car
Van = 2
Motorbike = 3

Best one is 5 = Public Minibus, to pass test ignore all traffic signs, lanes and general right of way. Stamp on brake to stop, stamp on accelerator to go, occaisionally use both hands to pick nose and remember to open window before spitting. EASY

Hi there, I'm currently taking driving lessons in HK and from what i understand, if you learn and take the driving test for Class 2, you will also get class 1 & 1A.

Yes, u r right Speedy. If u have a Class 2 Van driving license, u can drive private cars too. (I am not sure about definition of 1A though). Surely if u test on automatic car, u can't drive manual private car here. If u test on manual private car, u can drive both automatic and manual.

After u get the driving license for certain time, u can get an International Driving License.

Yes, the definition of A means it's auto gear. I just took my class 2 driving test last week and pass and the driving license states that i can now drive class 1 & 2 vehicles.
