| | | Exotic food in HK? I heard a lot about eating some really exotic foods in HK,like bugs, grasshoppers, worms, beetles etc...but now that I am in town there seems to be no place to get any such food?
Actually all I get when I ask local people about this is funny and surprised looks.
Are there really no places/restaurants offering this kind of dishes? All I could find was snake(soup),but I mean more exotic stuff like insects...
Thanks! | |

| | | I think you've got Bangkok confused with HK.
You see ... we don't eat bugs here. We do however eat cow's intestines, chicken feet, cogulated pigs blood, saliva of bird (bird's nest) and other exotic things.
I have had someone offer me a bug-meal -- think it was mostly scorpions and some earth(?) worm type squirmy creatures in Guangzhou and also Beijing. Not in HK as far as I know. Will ask around the office today though .. i've been proven to be wrong, a few times.

| | | Exotic foods....what lenghts we go to satisfy those taste buds and curiosity!
But yeah...for the bugs, insects etc...best would be to take a short flight to Bangkok...the variety there is probably more than you'll ever find in HK!
But then as Sri said...here in HK..we have our very own definition of the so called "EXOTIC FOODS"
Cheers,

| | You can also take a walk down Queen's Rd West and Des Voeux West and you'll find all the dried food stores.
They have everything imaginable from bettles, roaches, brains, etc. YUMMY!

| | | Thanks everyone for your replies.
I have been in Bangkok many times, but you don't get that kind of food there either(well, dried ones, but what I'm looking for is not dried food but rather nice succulent warm insect dishes, all prepared and ready for eating).
Cow intestines, chicken feet etc are ok but one can get them in NYC Chinatown too.
Anyway,thanks,I'll keep searching around...
