HK car navigation

Does somebody know which car makers have a hong kong navigation map support for in-car navigation systems like on the picture?

Tried to find a navigation CD for BMW - no luck, BMW dealer says they don't have it. Porshe supposed to have it, any other car makers?

There are some but they are in Chinese, in case you were looking for English.

To be perfectly honest with you and after driving around Hong Kong for a long time. I am not sure how much use it would be.

With the exception possibly of the airport run or a few longish roads like clearwater bay road you don't get 300 yards to know which lane you should be in, you often only get thirty. I firmly believe that people trying to react to those things in Hong Kong traffic would most likely cause an accident!

Plus they keep shifting the lanes with new traffic layouts on a number of major roads.

Right now I'm using the KingMap bundle (PDA with map+GPS receiver). Works fine except in Central in Causeway Bay, however it's hard to get lost there.

The only place it is realtively easy to get lost in is Kowloon. I have never had much trouble anywhere else although you need to know how to get around some one way areas to get to where you are going occasionally

tx75070 will become famous soon enough
Is there a navigation system you can buy after market for a car that allows you to put in the address of where you want to go and it guides you as you go? I would love to have this if available in HK.

No problem for a PDA solution. Works fine almost everywhere, easy to input where you want to go, it leads you with "turn right", "turn left", location map etc.

not sure if it applies here but when I used to live in the states and would go to NYC and using a GPS system in the car, I couldn't get good signals due to all the buildings around the area. i presume it would apply here as well in the crowded areas

Yes, that's due to the "urban canyon effect" but now you can find stronger GPS receivers that can even work in an indoor environment.. Example http://www.sirf.com/products-ss3.html

in case someone will be after the same information: I found that the following car makers have HK navigation as an option:

1. Porsche (option price ~60K HKD)
2. Mercedes (option price 10-30 HKD depending on CD or DVD solution)
3. BMW in development
