Move to HK.pls help!

My husband is working in HK. His salary is around HK$30K.
I will move to HK later soon. Probabaly I won't have a job at the first 3-6 months.
I would like to know whether HK$30K is enough for us to live in HK?
In other hand, I found below information in this website.

" Water: The water supplies department of Hong Kong Govt is responsible for water supplies. The cost varies depending on your usage.
Estimate about HK$30-50 per month "

Is this correct? I think the Water fee is so cheap per month.
Many Thanks.

Yes - the average household income in HK is about HK$20K per month, so $30K per month is plenty to live on.

And yes, water is around HK$50/month - it's metered so it depends how much you use, but you'd have to try very hard to get over $100 per month.

Yeah, but you really do have to keep in mind that the average household also has subsidised housing.

Er, this page: http://www.housingauthority.gov.hk/e...88-409,00.html

Seems to indicate that a couple with income over HK$10,100 (net of MPF) would not be eligible for Public Housing.

One third of HK's households are public rental units, but given the very skewed income distribution here that still means HK average (mean) income is way above the threshold. No doubt the median income is dramatically lower.

Sounds about right. I read in the Standard that 30% of HK's 7 million live in public housing even though there isn't 100% occupancy. The median vs mean comparision can be made about most any nation.
