Might be emotionally cheaper to buy a terra byte or two of disk space and connect a D Link DSM 520 to it.

Did you notice this part of the error log:

(Medium in drive: Unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R DL.)

What model is your laptop? You might have to look for a firmware on their site directly. This is the kind of problem that is usually fixed by a firmware update

I retried using verbatim......still no joy

Interestingly the log doesnt have the message about not recognising the media when using Verbatim, but it definately is a problem with layer break as it happens mid way during the burn... However, I dont think not recognising the media is the problem, because immediately above that in the log, it states the brand and disc type etc....

I have bought imation and mitsubishi media, but doubt if it will work. I have raised a support call with HP - Incidentally the TSST corp drives are Toshiba, but no available firmware.

Bugger Bugger Bugger.....

Similar problem

Guys, can you help?

I have a similar issue. I simply can't burn DVD's that will play on a stand alone player. I have tried using DVD Santa, Nero 6 & Nero 7, Ulead software. They claim they can convert to the correct format, create the Video_TS folders etc

The disks will play on my PC, but put them in a standalone player, 1 in 5 will play.

I am following all the advice above, ie LEAVE the PC alone when burning.

Oddly, I can burn data no problem. I can burn PS/2 games no problem.

But DVD's that will play in a player (and I have tried other players) no go.

I am using an external HP DVD640 drive and mitsubishi and imation disks (not DVD9).

Thanks!

It could be as simple that your ripped DVD is ripped from a different region than the region your DVD player is set to. So if you rip a Region 1 DVD and then burn that to a disc it simply won't play in a DVD player that is region 4. This would explain why it plays on your PC since the DVD there most probably is region free, and won't play in your DVD player. The discs you are able to play are simply ripped from the right region.
