Dehumidifiers and Bugs ??? when i first moved in...we had an to forcefully move out the roaches.... its very humid in our apartment, and want to get a dehumidifier. i noticed those small disposable ones are good cheap....and the larger ones are about 1000... BUT...my main concern is will the stagnant water attract the unwanted bugs/roaches? especially in the hot days?

The water tank will be behind a door and you should empty it regularly.

You could just sit it out as summer is just around the corner.

There should be a way to hook up the dehumidifier to a hose and constantly drain the thing so it doesn't fill with water. Might be a pain while you are in the house, but would be okay during the workinghours. Your AC unit will discourage bugs because it makes the air too dry for a lot of them (beetles, for instance). Not sure anything keeps out roaches.

Lower floors in old buildings attract cockroaches. Food attracts cockroaches, humidity attracts mosquitoes and fleas. I suggest moving the furniture and clean the floor covered and get rid of their eggs before they hatch, and spray insecticides of course.

I bought a dehumidifier, and life is so much better now. When it's time to use the A/C, I can use this as a backup the the A/C. Set it to a certain humidity %, so when the A/C makes it dry, the dehumidifier will shut off. And when I am not using A/C, it will turn on and keep the place dry. As far as the water goes, you'll be changing it probably every day, so it won't have a chance to sit around and become stagnant. |
