Question Hi-Fi Speakers

I am looking for a decent set of floorstanders this weekend......B&W, Monitor Audio etc....

Does anyone know where there is a high end hi fi shop that does demos...?

Or if anyone is selling a decent pair of floor standers, then feel free to PM me....

Go Time Square shopping ctr in Causeway Bay.

There are some highend HiFi stores on one of the upper floors including a BOSE shop. I have seen at least 2-3 shops there which have the demo rooms.

Check out Ocean Terminal in TST they have a few high end audio stores there also.

Mong Kok is the place to be!(Should have done that in all caps - too late now) Shing Yau Building ( 誠友 ) (MTR exit E2 - Body Shop is on the ground floor of this building). There are many shops here. I can't remember which floors have the stores. Maybe 6,8,10, and 14 (I think).

Tak Fat Building (德發 ) corner of Nelson and Tung Choi St (Ladies market Street). The main downstairs entrance is on Nelson street. There is a second, smaller entrance on Tung Choi. The main entrance to the building is here too. There are more stores upstairs.

Wah Fat Mansion (if not this building, the one next door) on Sai Yeung Choi South near Dundas St is floors and floors (small floors) of hifi stores.

Happy shopping.

I don't think you can class 'Bose' as high end !
Follow neither3nor4's directions in mong kok for high end speakers, you can also barter the price some with those guys.

I believe B&W showroom is in Central, across from the Galleria (Duddle or Ice House St area).

Nutta - would be great if you can post how you get on in Mong Kok and what Hi Fi brands you find. I went over to Sim City a few weeks ago to get a new DSLR and was really pleased by both the quality of service (DCfever) and the better prices than on HKI.

Nutta,

If you're reasonably serious about your music you should bring a CD or two of your own for test listening to the speakers you want to try out.

Post B&W Store review

So I thought I'd post a short review of thw B&W store in central.....

Got to the store on Duddle St in a not too obvious building (typically HK style), and was met and greeted by warm staff. It was nice, because they acknowledged your presence without shadowing you, and making you feel uncomfortable.

The store is about 4000 sq ft...... lots of tasteful downlight’s which gives it that “cinema feel”. Also they have lots of carpet and curtains suggesting an excellent acoustic environment with no harsh reflections or reverberations to spoil the clarity. There are three demonstration rooms; two of them have home cinema setup.

There is an excellent range of speakers on display, all of them B&W, along with a gaggle of cd players and amplifiers by Rotel. They also feature a full range of Casse amplifiers which are just so beautifully esoteric.

The speaker range start at basic bookshelves and go all the way to massive imposing semi professional home cinema style speakers which just looked awesome and costing northwards of 100K (shame they were not hooked up!). A good sign also was the size of the cables connecting components, which wouldn’t look out of place on the national grid!

The salesman hooked up whatever speakers we wanted to listen to. He was reasonably good in terms of product knowledge, and was always polite and friendly and never seemed bothered by our in-ability to decide! Typically he rubbished other manufacturers somewhat unconvincingly. Also unfortunately there were no Nautilus speakers on display.

We brought our own CDs in, and tried a good range of music out. Stuff like "Madonna - Do you know what it feels like" just sounded so so very excellent. Dance and Hip Hop had the slam factor and stuff like "Air - Moon Safari" was just so atmospheric and so beautifully resolved.

We listened to a number of B&W speakers starting off at bookshelves, but we were totally blown away by their floorstanders (700 series) which sounded great. A lovely balance between being tonally neutral, but not so flat or boring sounding.

Having looked at the various finishes, we plumped for the 3 way 700 series finished in cherry with delivery around 2 weeks.

So all in all, a great experience. A must visit place on your list if you are considering buying good hi fi speakers!
