XBOX 360 and Netivigator connection

Just though I'd ask this question before contacting Netvigator....

I bought an Xbox360 at the weekend, but I'm having a problem getting the Xbox live to work.

I connect the ethernet cable from the Xbox to one of the spare lan ports on the back of the netvigator adsl modem. Then run the test and it fails at the IP address stage.

I'm now wondering if I have to set up my netvigator username and password on the Xbox dashboard?

Any pointers in the right direction much appreciated.

I use a router that logs me into netvigator so I didn't have the details in my dashboard.

but since you are not using a router, your 360 will need your netvigator username and pass in the dashboard in order to get online.

Try it and let me know.

I'm not sure anyone has reported any success running multiple PCs/machines directly out of the ports on the DSL modem - the normal solution is to put a router on the back of the modem and connect all your machines to that. This has the added advantage that it can be a wireless router so you don't have so much cable clutter.

I'm pretty sure you have to pay for more than one IP coming from the modem directly, so if you already have a computer logged in, you won't be able to connect with your XBOX until you buy another IP.

A better solution by far is to use a router.

you can connect multiple computers to the back of the modem but each computer must still use a login name and pass to get online.

your 360 needs your netvigator user name and pass entered. Goto system>Edit setting>Additional setting and in the PPPoE settings enter your netvigator user name and pass. The 360 should then be able to get online and on live without a pc.

Yo uwill still however need a xbox LIVE user name and password to get on live. You can creat one if you dont have one. Your free to creat silver accounts and will have a one month free trial.
