I used HGC previously and it was very good, very stable and cheap. Had to change to Netvigator in new place and has been nothing but problems. A lot more expensive, slow speeds and the thing is up and down like a yo-yo.

Given a choice I'd go with HGC everytime but like everything else people have had different expeiences with different providers.

Thanks I rang them to check this out last Friday. I'm trying not to get too excited at the thought of 10Mbps but rather having the choice instead of being tied to PCCW. Apparently, leaving netvigator will not affect my NOW broadband tv. Although I can see that I will keep the netvigator adsl modem and will need to make room for the HGC one.

The HGC service has been great so far. I don't have a landline, so wouldn't know about that.

If you kept your netvigator adsl modem, how would that work with HGC, as HGC is vdsl? I suppose you'd need a new line installed, as you can't have both adsl and vdsl on a single line?

Yes I find that confusing too. I asked netvigator and he thought it was not a problem (and I'm a customer!). I'll ring HGC.

Here's something else ... if I disconnect from netvigator's broadband service for another then my NOW service will have access to the whole bandwidth of my connection to PCCW right? If so, then will the quality of the video improve/get worse/stay the same?

I remember reading somewhere in the older posts: it will get better!

Btw, i wanna get a landline (w fax abilities), broadband internet & cable tv.. Anyone has recommendations to what provider shld i approach?

I only use the internet for simple uploading & downloading, surfing, emails & skype..so dun think i need something w alot of bandwidth but unlimited is always nice (So i can leave it overnite while i fall asleep on the com)

I dun need ESPN & all.. (Read somewhere only i-cable has exclusive rites to ESPN) more like Star movies, CNBC, MTV kinda channels will be great.

Got no worries about signing plans too.. gona be here for a while i think..

Don't know about cable tv but ESPN is currently on NOW broadband tv.
For broadband you only have a choice between PCCW's Netvigator, HKBN, HGC or Pacific Supernet. The latter's pricing is not at all competitive these days but they were probably the first broadband provider in HK. The longer you sign up for the better the deal.

Just from what I know of my old building. The HGC service was installed through fibre optic whereas the netvigator in the building was on original copper lines. So you could have both. 2 modems though if you took both, so another addition to the tv cabinet!
