| hi all... i just arrived hk and got myself a job as an interior architect in a high end design firm... they proposed to pay me an initial start of HK$13000 and HK$15000 after review... my office is at sheung wan area... and i am currently looking for a place to rent as well... i'm here by myself, but i think that i wouldn have much to save after deducting rental, travel, food...etc... is my pay resonable? pls give me some advise, as i have no idea how is the pay like in HK... due to my salary, i'm thinking of setting aside HK$5000 for rental, is that enough? i dont need a very big place... decent, with kitchen n bath... my work will start a week from now, and am thinking for requesting a package or higher salary from the company... please advise... | how many years' experience and what qualifications do you have? I would see this as a decent starting salary or maybe for one years' experience, but anything more I think it's too low. Would others agree? |

1. if u are not a hker, can u get a visa on that ? 2. seems u did not go thru the visa process, please make sure everything is proper 3. if u are a full arch degree, but without the 2 years intern needed.. the pay might still be low. u shld get close to 18k hkd in Singapore, and hk cost of living is higher.

hi pleu, personally i think thats quite a low salary for a graduate with 2yrs experience. I'm an architectural graduate too, with 2 yrs under my belt, and i've just been in hk for 2 months now. I'm currently employed in a small practice and i did manage to do alot of research into salaries, and in my opinion u should be getting more that what you have posted. However if they are reluctant to increase your pay, it might be in your interest to accept the job for now, and scout around to see what else is available. anyway, my 2 cents..... if you want to ask any other q's or need some info regarding the industry...pm me...good luck.

Hi pleu I am also architect from London and the office I am working for just hired someone with your experience last week. I believe she has been offered somewhere around 20,000 to 22,000 hkd month. I would recommend you to look around or open the SCMP classified tomorrow (Sat). You will get a better deal. Besides the salary, it is wise to know what kind of office and doing what kind of project. I would say a lot of foreign archtiects find it difficult to jump in to some Hong Kong or China projects immediately, PM me anyway. all the best.

Hiya... Does anyone know if there's any British Registered Architect looking for an internee?? Friend of mine just graduated in the UK, he would like to come to HK to do his internship before he goes back for his second part. It has to be a British registered firm. Please advice. Cheers
