| | Can i get a decent apartment @ HK10K/mth Dear all,
I will be moving to HK in 6 weeks time and i am looking at renting an apartment for about HK$10K a month. I will like the apartment to be within 30 mins of travelling time to the Olympic City MTR station. A nice pool and a good gym will be preferred as well. I am not too particular about size, perhap 600sf to 800sf will be nice. Thanks for your help in advance!

| | | Easily. There are plenty of them available in your price range in the Lai Chi Kok area, and the buildings are no more than 3 years old or so. They'll be in the 600-700 sq. ft. range.
It will be a 14 minute ride on the MTR to Olympic, but it would probably be a much more direct route if you took a bus.
Check out Aqua Marine, Liberte, Pacifica and Banyen Gardens. I would have rented one of these myself, but I prefer the easter Kowloon area over this area.

| | | $10 will get you into a lot of nice places on the MTR line. Just use centanet.com or gohome.com.hk to search.
Are you moving with family? School choice might restrict your location.

Around Tung Chung MTR station you can find some restaurants and a relatively new cinema. Also it is much less crowded than other areas in Hong Kong.

| | | tung Chung Tung Chung is more secluded and is very much away from the "centre" of Hong Kong. It depends what your purpose for coming here is - if you are with family and are a bit of a home body, then tung chung might suit you; however if you are more of a partier then I'd suggest you look for something a little further down the mtr line towards town. There are soooooooooooooo many places that you can get with health clubs, pool, etc for $10000 per month you wouldn't even know where to start looking. I bet you wont even have to pay that much. | |

| | | what about living near olympic station? dont know whether you have kids or anything, but 10k MIGHT get you a place actually at olympic station itself if you looked hard enough .. or least very close by (eg 5 min walk); friends of mine were looking at apartments near olympic about 6 months ago and they wanted to pay less than 10k and saw a couple of nice places. you could just go see the local agents at olympian city, or look at the websites someone posted above. | |

| | | Olympic City is not the place to live if you want quality of life. If your going to be working and sleeping then its okay, not too far out of town, but there is nothing there apart from a huge bland development, token MTR shopping mall and a dying old community being pushed out by developers....
You should be able to get what you want for how much your willing to pay in the NT or Kowloon fairly easily - just start low! Best bet is to check into a serviced apartment for a few weeks and look when you get here...

| | | This map should show you how close Lai Chi Kok is to where you'll be working. As the bird flies, of course - taking the MTR, you'd have to go all the way down to TST and back up again. On a bus though, it's probably just a 10-15 minute ride. | |
