Taking credit card payments online (ie Worldpay)

Hello list,

I am currently building a website, but I need to be able to take credit card payments online.

I have found that Worldpay offer this service in HK. I am interested if anyone else has undertaken this work before and what issues need to be addressed.

Also interested to find out if there are any other companies in HK offering this service that I should consider.

Thanks!

We work with worldpay and there is a threshold you need to consider before their annual fees and charges become acceptable. For smaller transactions I'd seriously take a look at paypal (our membership payment system on GeoExpat uses paypal).

Most shopping carts will support both paypal and worldpay out of the box.

Thanks KIA

Can you recommend a shopping cart? Do you get source code or are they closed modules? My preference would be ASP or ASP.net.

To all techies out there - please let's not kick off a debate on open source, php whatever vs Microsoft. It is not a decision of mine to change.

Thanks!

For what it's worth, I spent some time working with Worldpay in the UK for some charity work I did - again, this was working with an existing infrastructure, so I had no choice of payment processor. I don't know how closely related Worldpay in the UK is to Worldpay here, but I found them pretty easy to work with - their stuff was simple and well-documented, and they were developer-friendly in terms of test resources and so on.

I wrote my own stuff to interface with them - partly from scratch, and partly translating an existing Perl setup to Python, on Linux of course so I can't really comment on shopping carts or ASP stuff...

Not familiar with ASP carts ... I'd recommend OSCommerce derivatives.

Thanks for the feedback.

Worldpay HK is just a subsidiary of Worldpay UK a subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland. Their fees are quite high ($6000 set up, and then year on year subscription of $3800. 4.5% of transaction amount and a per transaction fee of $.69). I was wondering if any competitors were cheaper, as Worldpay certainly aren't the cheapest in Britain.

They have a SOAP and ASP solution. I have worked with online payment companies in the UK, but that was using SOAP within a C# application.

The client here have a bit of cash and want a professional solution so I guess it has to be an ASP.Net or similar solution.

I can't really help on the merchant account (i.e. payment system) but can recommend OSCOMMERCE as your shopping cart. It seems to have the best developer base and is relatively easy to customize. I tried MIVA and was frustrated by the lack of options and the price.

I have oscommerce (which is free, in case that wasn't mentioned) up and running on my radio site:

If you are taking subscriptions, I think paypal has a really good system out and there APIs and modules available that will work the subscription payments into a mysql database and email type notifications.

>> Worldpay HK

Do they have a Hong Kong office? Our account seems to be managed by the Singapore office.

Hi !

I was planning on openning a business account with them, and then I realized that they only support U.S. Dollars, Canadian Dollars, Australian Dollars, Euros, Pounds Sterling, or Yen.

My website will have its price in HKD, so how can I do ? Asking my customer to pay in USD seems strange really... Does that mean that I cannot use Paypal ?

I've been to the worldpay.com website, but there is not pricing, you have to request a quote. My business will be a really small one, so I was counting on having very small recurrent fixed expenses, so I don't know if I can afford worldpay at all :-(
Anyone to tell me the level of the annual fee ? And the set-up fee ? Ans Transaction service charge ? No need to be exact, it's just to have a idea.

I've looked at Asiapay, and it does seems very expensive too... :-(

Thanks for your help !
