Someone's looking to me to help her get to use her PDA from 2002 to access the Internet on the go in HK (browsing and personal e-mail, nothing corporate) - using a cellphone connected via Bluetooth. There's enough evidence in CNetAsia and ZDNet reports that people can do this with the model in question (iPAQ H3870) which has browser and e-mail software alright.
Had no problem with Bluetooth connection between the PDA and cellphone. Questions are - what kind of service is needed from the cellular service provider or ISP to enable this? And any idea of costs? Thanks.
N.B. Wi-Fi isn't the object of interest in this particular case.
Talk to your network provider about a GPRS account. They're extremely expensive in HK ... (too expensive to be honest) and really not suitable for casual users.

browsing the internet on a PDA using a GPRS connection through a bluetooth enabled phone? sounds like a lot of trouble to me. GPRS is available with all cellphone service providers in HK. Just ask the one whose network you're using.
Btw, instead of the circuitous route, ever tried something more direct? like Wi-Fi (Wireless Broadband)?
