Hi All,

I have had an offer to move to HK from Sydney & would like all you expert opions on a few things.

My wife and I have a brand new baby so she will be tied up looking after bub and not working. I really wanted to know if we could do the following on HK$ 800,000

Rent a nice apartment (modern)
Cover medical costs
Food
Transport
Have some for fun and to save


You get the picture - sorry to be vague but thats all the info I have and having our first baby totally makes me think more than twice about this.....

US$100k per annum is comfortable in any country so you should be more than comfortable in hk.

800k is absolutely fine.
you might want consider asking for 1 or 2 flights home per year. and support for your wife when she wants to work again (full timem maids very cheap here

Maids can be cheap here but it's difficult to find a good one .... heard so many stories about maid treating kids badly when the parents aren't at home etc.
