Oh, cool! This is becoming a Graphic Design thread!

Okay, that makes me feel younger! Actually, I just applied for art schools in San Francisco. I got accepted in Academy of Art University (AAU) since they accept everyone! Open admission. I thought I was going there a few weeks ago... now, I got accepted in California College of the Arts (CCA), which is also in San Francisco! I decided to go to CCA since it's one of the top art schools in the US... atleast, that's what everyone says.... who knows. I guess they liked my portfolio and grades!

Isn't the market flooded with graphic designers already? I graduated from Architecture. So in the office, I do mulitple things... from doing CAD drawings for construction, to designing simple furnitures, to graphic designing, to web designing/mastering/developing, photographer and IT techinician. Fun, ey!

What about you, artdude? Where did you study and what made you decide to change your career path at such a late age?

I used to be a civil engineer, but didn't like it. Like you, YOHAN, I used to do a lot of things at the firms I worked for... AutoCAD, MicroStation, some light graphics work... and that led me to discover graphic arts. And so I went back to school.

I actually went to some obscure little school in Tampa, Florida... it wasn't a very good school, but at least it got me a degree and a portfolio... and in the graphics field, a good portfolio will get you further than a good school.

I would like to say I just like the satisfaction only... but then again... how would I survive?

Everyone's a graphic designer these days... maybe it's not such a good idea to study it?

well YOHAN,
we study basic but we practice wisdom, how to get wisdom? 1st never base 100% from basic as the basic you study is a past, try use your wisdom to create a new lead for youeself and for the industry. Back to your "how would i survive" . If you want to charge a lot to earn more than survive, then you must not only design from basic, you must design with wisdom, then you can earn more than a living, perhaps you might just b famous. well thats for people who race again fame, but for successful designer it is still the satisfaction that money can't buy. so enjoy design, design for life. all the best

Question

Are there any graphic designers out there who can spend a day with me refining the UI for a website? We outsourced this to an Indian firm but it's been pretty hard discussing design changes over email/IM. It'd be nice to actually talk to someone face-to-face!

I need someone with a keen sense of clean, simple design (i'm a big fan of LinkedIn.com) and can use photoshop. If you know HTML/CSS, even better!

I can show you what we have so far. It just needs a few tweaks and changes to make it perfect.

PM me for details. Thanks!
