Have you tried LikSang?

Lik Sang.com
Shop 1 G/F Fuk Lung Building
191-199 Fuk Wa Street
Sham Shui Po (MTR Exit D)
Kowloon, Hong Kong
Tel: 2728 1980
Fax: 2728 3028

or http://www.lik-sang.com

They're one of the most popular online PS2 modchip / region free game suppliers. There are a couple of dozen shops around that area that will have you browsing for ever..

Also, you may want to drop by Windsor Plaza (if Sham Sui Po intimidates you) there are a couple of specialist PS/2 shops there that might be able to help you.

If you don't care about paying over the odds, use Lik Sang. Or their competitor Lan Kwei. But both shops are really intended as international mail order/online stores, catering to American and European gamers, who'll pay stupid prices for the latest Japanese games. They're very bad value by local standards, and not particularly good for getting hold of US games.

188 in Wanchai is one of the better places for legit games (it's near 288 on Lockhart Road, but behind it - going through a small mall, on the other road).

But really, you'd be stupid to buy US PlayStation 2 games living in Hong Kong, the home of games piracy. Just go to 288 or Mong Kok's Sim City, or numerous other places, and buy the pirate versions (unless you need it as a present for someone, in which case obviously the pirates aren't so great).

I don't normally condone piracy, but in the case of games companies, they deserve everything they get for knowingly charging 300% more than they should.

Thumbs up

Hi,

I search for some playstation games too. You say that you find it at 288 or Mong Kok's Sim City. I suppose that Mong Kok's city is near Mong Kok city but where exactly? Same question about 288
-> is it 288 Lockhart Road?

Thanks

Yes, 298 is on Lockhart Road. (is it 298 or 288? I forget which - anyway, it's obvious when you walk past.)

Monk Kok's Sim City is in Monk Kok (obviously) right next to the MTR exit that comes out besides the Body Shop (I forget which one... big busy road though).

The Wanchai Computer Store (next to Wanchai MTR exit B) also has a couple of stalls with pirate games, as I recently got a bundle of European PlayStation 2 copies from there...

188, around the back from 298, is the best place for legal games though.

Thank you Botox!

I will try to find thises addresses, I hope it will be easy to have a copy, because a friend of mine told me that I need to give the money first, and to come back one hour later to have the game. is it what you do to have a copy?

Gillig Phantom is on a distinguished road
It is actually 298 of Hennessy Road, which is near CC Wu Building. The entrance is right next to Jockey Club. 188 is located at Wan Chai Road, which is around back from 298. There is a 7-11 next to the entrance and you can walk through Heard Street or CC Wu Building to get to Wan Chai Road.

Hope this helps~

Gillig's probably right about the roads - I don't think I've ever seen a road sign in my stay in Hong Kong, but it doesn't really matter as I know where I'm going anyway...

Yes, when you buy the copied games, you usually have to wait a while. You write down the code numbers of the games on display on a piece of paper, then give it to "the guy" along with the money (HK$20-30 per disc), and wait about 20-30 minutes for your order to be ready - just go away and continue shopping in the mean time.

Once in Mong Kok's Sim City the police came in, so the entire store closed down and the pirates went running... but about half an hour later they were all back and fulfilled their orders anyway. Exciting

If you go to the Wanchai Computer Store there's a little shop that sells the games there and then, so you won't have to wait, but they're sometimes sold out of the more popular titles (they do 3 PS2 games for HK$100). But I have that guys phone number so I generally can just phone him before and ask.

Thanks for all this news.

Another question:

To read this copies, I think my playstation needs to be modified. I know there are some modchips such as Messiah, but I think there is the possibility to use the usb behind the playstation. what is your advice? can I find it in these shops?
