Yes, you need a modified PlayStation 2. I'm sure many places can do it for you.

It would probably just be less hassle to sell your existing PS2 and buy a new Hong Kong region, pre-modified one here though. It would be quick and cheap, and without worrying if you have the right version of PS2 to be compatible with the different mod chips. Plus the HK region PS2 has been improved over the other ones (US, Japanese, European) with a few little touches. The only downside is that it only plays Region 3 DVDs... unless you use a special multiregion disc.

In both cases (HK PS2 for European Games & US PS2 for HK Games) you've got to mod them.

A good place to get a mod chip and get them modded is the computer mall called Golden Arcade Shopping Center in Sham Shui Po. If you have the "small" PS2 then make sure that also get an fix chip to keep your lens from burning through.

so let me get this clear , if i go out and get a US ps2 mini , get it modified, i can then go to Mongkok and get all the pirated games i want , japanese , US and european. I understand it 200HKD to get modified. WHats all this about a lens thing to stop it burning out????

I was told that PS minis aren't so readily modified; higher chance of messing up the machine, which is beyond guarantee, but dunno bout the fix chip.

well , heres the scoop from me. I got a japanese ps2 mini, turns out most people dont have the US one in stock and took it to 188 Wanchai Road. There they chipped it for 380 , they seemed a bit confused when i mentioned the lazer modification aswell, so i dont know if they did it or not , but they said it would now accept all CD's. Time will tell. Bourght a load of CD's froma shop inside there only to find out they gave me a bunch of really bad looking mainland pirated dvd's , an accident im sure and will go back for my GTA- San Andreas tonight!!!!!!!!!
