How do I do this?

Hi All,

Thanks in advance for your response. I am interested in finding a job in Hong Kong at the end of this year 2006, to early next 2007. I have been working in the US for the past 6 years in architecture, for commercial and now single family homes. I am brainstorming the idea of trying to work in HK in the architecture field, and hoping to get projects in mainland china. My dilemma is this.... I am unsure of what positions to apply for. I do not know the working policies in Asia well enough, and also feel that I may be unprepared to work/compete against people in Hong Kong. I speak fluent English and Cantonese/Mandarin. However, I do not write or read chinese very well.

Please give me your advise.

Am I qualified?

That is the main question. Am I qualified to work in Hong Kong and compete with the locals?

Any comments is appreciated.

Lots of large multinational firms in Hong Kong which do not really care about the writing / reading part.

From what I gather -- these companies deal with a very diverse client group across the region.

Would recommend starting with firms like Aedas and the like.

You speak fluent Cantonese and Mandarin so don't sell yourself short re the working habits. Learning the languages over the years I'm sure you would have picked up on cultural awareness, mentality, emotional makeup and how locals tick.

Thanks a lot KnowitAll and Nations.... I will hope to find something that will meet my budget and give Hong Kong a try. I am looking forward to this change in life and think that either way will be for the better.

Does anyone know what's the estimate salary?
