Got Job Offer but...Help!

Recently, I applied a job which I have to work for employer's new client.

And they told me they were going offer me this job. (By phone and E-mail)

At the first time, I rejected it because the condition seems not better that present company.
But they still wanted me to join them and asked me what was the concerned something,
so finally with some change on the condition, I decided to accept it.

Afterwards, with their mention that they are going to process my contract with the client and push me to let them know which date is my available joining them,
I sent my letter of resignation to present company and then informed them my available date.
( I dare to say it was 'push' because the HR guy kept calling me and email me to ask that.)

Actually, it was them who asked me they were very urgent on my attending to their client, so if I could, told my boss to get the last workining day as earlier as possible.
(HR guy said it around middle of the Febrary, and asked me if it was possible to attend from 1st of March.)

But after 2 weeks from that conversation,
today when I called him to see the update for this, he said he still need confirmation from the client and top management.
and that one he said to me before was not "official confirmation".
I was really stuck when he said like that.

My common sense is..
If they want to offer a job to me for the client and if they need the confirmation from the client in order to do it, It is the right way that they have prior confirmation on me from the client, isnt it?

Can I assume that they are hanging around me as they want to catch some potential candidates to get the project from their client?

And in any undesirable situation - let say they speak me that they couldnt get the confirmation from the client so they would not be able to offer me this job - ,
Could I do some action on them for making me resigning my present company with no 'official' confirmation from the related parties ?

Has anyone have a similar situation?

Sorry for long msg and Many Thanks in advance!

desperately,
Rachel

They did not make you resign. You did it youreslf.

I am sorry to say that but, you should not resign without having a written contract/offer on hand. Phone or e-mails are no guarantees. Once your signature and theirs is on paper..this is a guarantee.

Now you can just work hard to make this works, but I do not think you can sue them..

Sorry to hear of your situation but I have to agree with Mat on this. There's no signed contracts with your new employer so very little recourse in forcing them to take you on or alternatively compensating you.

technically, even if you have signed an employment contract, employer is allowed to terminate you by giving you one month's pay for whatever reason. this is worded into most of the contract signed.

regardless, you can do nothing but wait. and if they really screw up your job, write down their name and details and just spread it thru all of internet. then they will forever have difficulties employing anyone.
8-)
