Will my wife get a HKID and HKSAR passport right away

Hi Everyone,

I'm a HK resident and was wondering will my wife get her HKID and HKSAR passport after the HK immigration grant her the dependent visa?

Thank you very much.

Sincerely yours,

Alvyn

If she gets a dependent visa then yes she will get a HKID, but HKSAR Passport is something completely separate. To get that she would need to take Chinese citizenship (assuming she isn't from the mainland) and renounce her existing citizenship. Marriage doesn't generally result in a change of citizenship.

You say you are a "HK resident" - are you a HK Citizen or what?

There is no such thing as HK citizenship. You are eligible to apply for a HKSAR passport if you are a Chinese citizen, have the ROA in the HKSAR and are holding a Hong Kong permanent identity card (PIC).

HKID card

If she become dependent then she can apply for the HKID card but no 3 stars on it. She need to stay in HK for 7 yrs then she will get the 3 stars HKID card

Oh no! Not the 3 star issue again!

No she won't - she will get Right of Abode. That is not the same thing as 3 stars.
